J. B. Shank is an historian of European intellectual history, in particular the era known as the Scientific Revolution. He is known for his multidisciplinary approach to the study and teaching of the humanities and is a creative force for curricular innovation. He received National Endowment for the Humanities funding for his innovative course, “The Nature of the Cosmos,” a global comparative study of six cosmologies from cultures around the world.
