Section A

Section A includes Monuments 1 through 29. Proceeding west from McNamara Alumni Center, at the northwest corner of Beacon and Walnut Streets, you will enter a lovely tree-lined walkway flanked by ornate street lights, stone benches, and individual stone and glass monuments. The Graduate Hotel is across Beacon Street to the south (on your left), and the University Recreation and Wellness Center is to the north (on your right).
With the exception of monuments in alcoves, all odd-numbered monuments will be found on the south side of the walk (on your left as you proceed west) and all the even-numbered monuments will be found on the north side (on your right).
On your left is an alcove set back from the walkway, which includes Monuments 9, 10, and 11 [describing the work of the University Gateway Corporation, who developed the nearly four-block-long Scholars Walk].
As you continue west, just past Monument 19 on your left is another alcove, which includes Monuments 20, 20A, and 21 to Nobel Prize winners from the University of Minnesota.
