Eclipsing Binary Stars as Stellar Multi-Tools
Eclipsing binary stars have long been a cornerstone of astronomy because both stars’ physical properties can be measured directly. Daniel Stevens’ group leverages modern ground- and space-based observations to turn an increasingly wide variety of eclipsing binaries into astronomical laboratories, using them to reveal the physical processes governing the structure and evolution of these stars as well as those of the exoplanets they host and the galaxy in which they reside.
